I used this painting to explore how physical intimacy can act as portal to the divine, as it takes us out of our minds into a state“ present centred awareness’ a term coined by the modern spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle. However as this moment is based on sense pleasures and arises through exernal circumstances, it is fleeting and conditional. And as our lover turns away from us, we may feel as though we’ve lost access to this state of oneness or our connection to the divine as we move back into our mind based mode of being.
